Freddie Bassett announced himself as a staying prospect on the rise with a dominant all-the-way victory in the $100,000 Super Maiden over 1600m at Warwick Farm on Wednesday.

The talented three-year-old son of Wootton Bassett relished the application of blinkers for the first time, showing sharp improvement as he put it all together in impressive fashion. Jumping cleanly from the inside barrier, Freddie Bassett was sent straight to the lead by leading jockey Tommy Berry and was able to dictate terms throughout.
Travelling comfortably in front, he always looked to be in control, and when Berry asked for an effort turning for home, the response was immediate. Freddie Bassett produced a strong turn-of-foot, surging clear in the straight and holding his rivals at bay to score by a convincing 1.2 lengths.

It was a brilliant and confident ride from Berry, perfectly complementing another excellent training performance from the red-hot partnership of Annabel & Rob Archibald.

The win franks the high opinions held by connections of Freddie Bassett and he looks to have a bright future ahead. The progressive gelding is now set to be stepped up in distance and targeted towards the Brisbane Winter Carnival via a 1900m event at Canterbury in a fortnight.
Congratulations to Annabel & Rob Archibald, jockey Tommy Berry, and all of Freddie Bassett’s delighted owners.
