Formal Display (GB) continued his outstanding preparation with a dominant victory in the $200,000 Tamworth Cup (1400m), delivering an ultra-impressive performance to secure a winning hat-trick.
Ridden with great composure by in-form apprentice Braith Nock, Formal Display jumped cleanly from the barriers before settling beautifully in third position behind two tearaway leaders who ensured a genuine tempo throughout. Nock was patient and confident, allowing his mount to travel comfortably before gradually building into the race from the 600m.
As the field approached the home turn, Formal Display was poised to strike – and once asked for an effort, he let down with a powerful turn-of-foot. Sweeping past the leaders with ease, he quickly put the race beyond doubt, surging clear to score by nearly two lengths in a commanding display.

It was a ride full of timing and maturity from Nock, perfectly complementing the gelding’s acceleration and tenacity. The victory not only brought up Formal Display’s sixth career win, but also reaffirmed his excellent form this preparation, having now strung together three consecutive wins.
Importantly, the Tamworth Cup triumph secures Formal Display a coveted berth in the $3 million Big Dance (1600m) at Royal Randwick on Melbourne Cup Day – a target that now looms as an exciting spring opportunity for his owners.

Trained by the red-hot partnership of Annabel & Rob Archibald, Formal Display continues to thrive under their care, showing outstanding consistency to perform at a high level and this progressive galloper looks like he has more to offer.
Congratulations to our Triple Crown team of owners, trainers Annabel & Rob Archibald and jockey Braith Nock.
